The task of unblocking a toilet is likely to result in some rather unpleasant odours! Once you’ve solved the problem, use Domestos Mountain Fresh Bleach* to clean – it quickly eliminates germs and bad smells inside the toilet bowl.
This may be the most unpleasant household task there is, but there are effective ways to unblock a toilet that do not involve waiting and paying for a plumber.
Before you start to unblock the toilet, lay down newspaper in the bathroom, and change into old clothes. Wear protective clothing such as gloves and possibly goggles (if dealing with chemical products). You might want to open a window for ventilation, which will help with both the fumes from chemical products and the unpleasant smells emanating from the toilet bowl!
Method One: Plunger
For this job you’ll want to use a bell-shaped plunger rather than the traditional one. The bell-shaped is specially designed for unblocking toilets and therefore makes the process much easier. Be very careful when pushing the initial air out of the plunger, as being too forceful may cause the water to splash out. Then carefully work the plunger, while varying the speed and the angles. Be patient but if it doesn’t work, and move on to one of the other methods instead.
Method Two : How to Unblock a Toilet with Chemical Cleaner
There are many different concoctions that could work in this situation, homemade or otherwise, but unless you are familiar with them it is safer to stick with a commercial drain unblocker. Always read the instructions when dealing with chemical cleaners, wear protective clothing, and ensure the area is well ventilated. Likewise, be sure to clean the area thoroughly afterwards, and either clean or dispose of any tools you used in the process!
Method Three: Call A Professional!
If you’re unsure how to fix a blocked toilet, or haven’t had any success with the aforementioned methods, it might be time to call in a plumber. Though it might cost a little more, it’s sure to save you a whole lot of hassle!
