How to get foundation off the carpet: stain removal tips

Learning how to get make-up off carpet is easier than you think, so if you have a troublesome foundation stain, read on for easy removal tips and tricks.

  1. Getting foundation out of carpet needs to start by removing as much excess make-up as possible. If the stain is new, use a cloth or piece of absorbent paper to blot up the foundation. Never rub the stain, as this could make it larger and push the foundation deeper into the carpet fibres.
  2. Next, you need some lukewarm water. Dip a soft cloth into the water and wring it out. The cloth should be damp, but not saturated. Dab the foundation-stained area with your damp cloth. This will allow you to absorb more of the liquid.
  3. Sprinkle a dusting of potato starch over what remains of the foundation stain. Allow this to soak for 24 hours.
  4. Vacuum the area where you sprinkled the potato starch. This should remove any foundation or make-up stains on your carpet!
  5. If steps 2–4 haven’t worked, it may be worth trying a commercial stain remover to get foundation out of the carpet. For these we have a few pieces of advice:
    • Always read the instructions carefully and follow the manufacturer’s advice found on the label.
    • Make sure you test the stain-remover on an inconspicuous spot first to ensure it doesn’t result in any adverse reactions on your carpet.
    • Avoid any products that are chlorinated or bleach-based as these could lead to carpet discolouration.
