How to Clean your Bathroom Fixtures | Cleanipedia

A clean and tidy bathroom is elementary to basic hygiene. While we make it a point to scrub the tiles, there are some fixtures in the bathroom that we tend to ignore. Over a period of time, dirt, grime as well as smudges accumulate on the surfaces of these fixtures and they tend to lose their sheen.

Try these tips to get your bathroom fixtures clean and sparkling.

1) Washbasin

To remove soap scum stains, make a cleaning solution of water and vinegar, 1 cup of each. Pour it into a spray bottle. Shake well, apply it on the stained area and wait for 10 minutes. Wash with plain water and pat dry with a cloth. For tough stains, you need to make a paste of ½ a cup of baking soda mixed with 1 cup of water. Apply this paste over the area with a soft-bristled brush and wait for half an hour. Scrub clean with a scrubbing pad and wash with plain water. Pat the washbasin dry with a clean cloth.

Steel Finish

In a cup of water add 1 tsp. each of vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Use this solution to scrub away the stains. Wash with plain water and wipe dry. To scrub hard-to-reach corners, use an old but clean toothbrush dipped in the cleaning solution.

Brass or Bronze Finish

To clean your brass or bronze bathroom fixtures, cut a lemon in half, sprinkle 1 tsp. of salt over it and scrub. Wait for 10 minutes, and wash with plain water. Pat the fixtures dry with a clean microfibre cloth. Always test this method on a small, inconspicuous area first to make sure it’s safe.

3) Toilet Bowls

Toilet bowls, if kept unclean for a long time, can release foul odour. Wear rubber gloves before you start cleaning your toilet bowl. Pour ½ a cup of vinegar around the inner and outer rims of your toilet bowl and let it run down to the base. Allow this to sit for 5 minutes. Then, using a toilet brush, clean the entire toilet bowl thoroughly and flush. Repeat the process a couple of times if needed.

4) Mirrors

To clean your bathroom mirrors, make a paste of 1 cup each of baking soda and water. Spray water on the mirror and rub the paste on the entire surface with a sponge. You can also use a soft nylon scrubbing brush as an alternative. Finally, rinse the mirror thoroughly with plain water. Use this method to remove soap scum and toothpaste stains from your mirrors.

Keep your bathroom fixtures sparkling so you can start each day on a clean note!
