Check out how you can wash and retain the richness of your silk sarees at home!

A silk saree is a prized possession in every Indian woman’s wardrobe. Draping a silk saree sure gives anyone a sense of pride and elegance.

Retaining the richness of silk sarees is a task one needs to perform meticulously. Check out this step-by-step process on how to wash and store your silk sarees.

Step 1:

Prep work. Fill a tub with cold water and wash a silk saree in it for two or three minutes without any detergent. Then, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar and let it rest for 10 minutes. Again, wash the saree under cold water until the smell of vinegar is washed off.

Step 2:

Mixture. Take another tub full of water, add a teaspoon of fabric softener (suitable for silk) and a few drops of baby shampoo to it. Wash the saree in it and rinse again with cold water.

Step 3:

Last move. Squeeze the saree gently without twisting or wringing to drain the water. Never dry a silk saree under direct sunlight.

Step 4:

Store it. It’s alright to iron a silk saree while it's still a bit damp. Start with ironing the insides but first test on a small patch. After it is completely dry, wrap the saree in a muslin cloth and store it in a dark place.

Dry clean silk sarees in a timely manner.
