In a tropical and humid country like India, cotton fabrics are our go-to, comfy garments. They feel light and breathable. However, due to regular use, they seem to look faded. Don’t worry, with some simple care and a few smart tips, you can go a long way in retaining the brightness of their colour.
Here we go!
1) Say No to Hot Water
Don’t wash them in hot water as it may damage the fabric and lead to discolouration. In most cases, hot water can lead to fabric shrinking as well. Remember, cold water is the right option.
2) Soak Them
If you’re handwashing them, add 2 cups of mild detergent to a bucket of water and twirl this solution with your hands. Let the clothes soak in this solution for 5-10 minutes, twirl again. Make sure you wring them gently to get rid of excess water.
3) Separate by Colour
Sort your cotton clothes by colour. If you wash dark cotton with lighter ones, you’ll end up with a pile of discoloured clothes.
4) Use Vinegar
Add 1 cup vinegar in the washing machine during the rinse cycle. It prevents fading and preserves the brightness of your cotton clothes. It also keeps your clothes feeling soft and smelling fresh.
5) Flat Dry Them
Flat dry your cotton clothes in the shade. Don’t expose your cotton clothes to the direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the colour to fade and the fabric to shrink.
Use these tips and flaunt your bright cotton clothes like a fashionista!
