How to Wash your Child’s Woollen Hoodie | Cleanipedia

Your child will wear a woollen hoodie just a few months each year. If stored properly, woollen clothes can easily be passed on to the younger kids in the family.

When it comes to wool, hand-washing is highly recommended because wool is a delicate fabric, and machine-washing can cause pilling. There is also a chance the garment could lose shape. However, like any other item of clothing, you must start with reading the wash care label.

Follow these steps to care and maintain your kids’ woollen hoodies.

Step 1: Soak the Hoodie

Mix 1 cup of mild detergent in a bucket of cold water. Soak the woollen garment in the detergent solution for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Squeeze Gently

Gently swirl the hoodie in water. Take it out, roll the hoodie into a ball and squeeze out excess water. Woollen fabrics are prone to shrinking, so ensure that you do not apply too much pressure on the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse

Do not use hot water to rinse woollen fabrics; rinse in cold water. Repeat to make sure there is no residue detergent left in the garment.

Step 4: Wrap in a Towel

Wringing woollen garments can ruin their shape. So, to remove excess moisture, wrap the woollen hoodie in a dry towel and press gently.

Step 5: Lay Flat to Dry

Lay the hoodie neatly on a flat surface and let it dry in a shaded place, away from direct heat or sunlight.

Remember, if you plan to machine-wash your child’s hoodie, always run the machine on a gentle cycle. And never use the dryer.
