Simple Tips to Prevent Infections During Pregnancy | Cleanipedia

If you or someone in your home is pregnant, you are bound to be concerned about germs and infections. Here are a few care tips to bear in mind during pregnancy.

1) Maintain Personal Hygiene

Everyone at home must maintain personal hygiene, especially if a family member is pregnant. Cleaning your hands thoroughly before you help a pregnant woman is important. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based sanitiser such as those available from Lifebuoy. When coughing or sneezing, use a tissue or your elbow to cover your mouth (if a tissue is not available at the time). Discard the tissue in the dustbin immediately. Also, it is a good idea to maintain physical distance from someone sick or someone coughing.

2) Wash Clothes and Sheets Frequently

Since clothes and sheets can retain germs, a good wash is the simplest way to ensure they are hygienically clean. Washing clothes and bedsheets or covers regularly with a detergent like Rin Antibac is good enough to remove germs.

3) Clean Surfaces Daily

It is important to disinfect all the surfaces in your home daily. Germs can travel up to 3 feet after a sneeze and settle down on different surfaces. When someone is pregnant in the house, you must take extra care to ensure they are protected. Hence, it is essential to clean high-touch common surfaces like switches, door handles, tables, toilet seats, bath fittings, phones, computers etc.

All these surfaces can be cleaned with a regular household detergent and water. After cleaning, you can disinfect them for better hygiene. For disinfection, you can use Domex Multi-Purpose Disinfectant spray. It contains Sodium Hypochlorite as recommended by leading health organisations for disinfecting surfaces at home. It safely kills germs on frequently touched surfaces in rooms and leaves behind a pleasant fragrance. Follow usage instructions on the pack and always test on a small hidden area and rinse to check compatibility first.

A few precautions can go a long way to protect a pregnant woman. Have a safe, happy pregnancy!
