Before you lay your freshly laundered clothes on your ironing board, it’s important to ensure that it’s clean and odour-free. Even though many people clean their irons once in a while, they often forget to clean the ironing boards.
You do not have to clean your ironing board weekly, but it is a good idea to clean it every two months. Follow our simple steps to keep your ironing board spic-and-span.
Step 1: Set up the Ironing Board
Set up the ironing board like you normally would before ironing your clothes. Use a clean cloth to remove loose dust from the board.
Step 2: Remove the Ironing Board Cover
Read the instructions on the care label to check if the cover can be machine-washed. If yes, toss it in the washing machine and run a full cycle on gentle setting.
However, if the cover cannot be machine-washed, identify the stained areas and spot-treat them. Mix ½ a cup of water, 2 tbsp. of vinegar and 1 tsp. of baking soda in a bowl. Transfer this solution into a spray bottle and apply it over the stained areas. Let the solution rest on the stain for 5 minutes. Now, gently wipe with a damp cloth.
Step 3: Remove the Pad
Carefully take out the pad attached to the ironing board without damaging it. Dust the pad with a clean cloth to remove loose dirt. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to remove accumulated dust.
Step 4: Wipe the Ironing Board
Wipe the board with a damp cloth. Ensure that you cover all the areas, including legs and under the board. Don’t forget to clean the corner where the legs and the board meet. It usually is a hotspot for cobwebs.
Step 5: Dry with a Clean Cloth
Make sure you wipe your ironing board dry with a clean, dry cloth.
And just like that, it’s all done! Try this method and your ironing board will last a long time.
