Nail polish may look great on your fingernails, but spill them on your carpet, and they are a mess waiting to be cleaned up. It is advisable to paint your nails away from your carpet, but you can’t always be too careful. If an accidental nail paint spill occurs, take action immediately. The sooner you start cleaning, the lesser the effort you’ll have to put in.
You can follow the steps given here to remove nail paint stains from your carpet in minutes.
Step 1: Blot with Paper Towels
As soon as you spot nail paint stains on your carpet, throw some paper towels on it and blot gently.
Step 2: Scrape the Stained Area
Use a butter knife or a spoon to scrape off dried bits of your nail paint from the carpet. Do not scrape too vigorously. You do not want to damage the threads on your carpet.
Step 3: Apply Acetone
Pour a few drops of acetone on a cotton ball and dab over the stained area of your carpet. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times until the polish stops coming off the carpet. Do not use the acetone in excess amounts as it can ruin the fabric of your carpet.
Step 4: Prepare a Cleaning Solution
Mix 4-5 drops of mild detergent in a bowl of lukewarm water. Ensure that your detergent has no bleaching properties.
Step 5: Clean the Stains
Soak a soft sponge in the cleaning solution and gently rub it on the stained areas of your carpet. The detergent will lift the nail paint residue. Now, clean the detergent by dabbing it with a cotton cloth dipped in clean water.
Step 6: Soak Up the Moisture
Place a stack of paper towels on the dampened areas and gently press the towels to absorb moisture. Repeat, if necessary.
Well, now that you are done cleaning the stains, it’s time to apply a second coat of nail polish on your fingernails.
