Here’s How to Clean Your Top-Loading Washing Machine

Top-loading washers are very popular and while it is easy to learn how to use one, you also need to know how to take care of your washing machine. The process for cleaning a top-loading washing machine is simple. We’ve listed a step-by-step method for you to follow.

Step 1: Run a Wash Cycle

Start by running a hot cycle with the machine empty to remove any powder detergent particles that are left behind in the machine. While running your regular cycle we recommend using a liquid detergent, as this dissolves in the water and leaves no residue.

Step 2: Add Vinegar and Baking Soda

Next, run a second empty hot wash. The moment the machine is full of water, add in 3 cups of white vinegar, along with ½ a cup of baking soda.

Step 3: Let it Rest

Let the mixture sit for 30 seconds, then turn off the machine. Let it sit for 45 minutes to an hour.

Step 4: Restart Your Washer

Restart the machine and finish the cycle. Some machines might even allow you to change the settings to allow a spin cycle to run while it is draining.

Step 5: Make a Cleaning Solution

Turn off your machine. Make a mixture comprising 2 cups of hot water and 2 cups of vinegar. Take a clean cloth, dip it in the mixture and wipe the inside of your washing machine, including the rim of the tub.
