A grinder is a heavily used appliance in practically all Indian kitchens. You depend on it to make your own special masalas, chutneys and a host of other things. However, if you don’t clean it regularly, it can result in an intermingling of flavours, which can alter the flavour of the dish you’re cooking.
But don’t worry, we’re here to help you. We have a few tips to help you clean your grinders easily.
Step 1: Make a Solution
Prepare a solution comprising 2 tbsp. of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Mix well and pour this solution into the mixer container. Run the grinder for around 30 seconds.
Step 2: Use Lemon Peels
Take a few lemon peels and clean the lid and other parts of the grinder with these peels. Let it rest for 15 minutes and wash thoroughly with water.
Step 3: A Round of Rice
Fill ¾th of the grinder with uncooked rice and give it a whirl. This will clear up the residue from under the blades. Then wash the grinder under clean running water to remove any leftover dirt.
Step 4: Wipe
Use an old, clean brush or cloth to wipe down the grinder.
Step 5: Repeat
Check if all the stains have been removed. If not, you can repeat the process.
There you have it! Cleaning your grinder is easy. If you follow these steps every time you grind masala, you can be sure your dish will taste authentic without any added flavours of previously ground items!
Clean your kitchen grinder once or twice every week to keep it fresh and shiny.
