Here are some things you should check for if your fridge is not cooling enough

There is definitely some problem when your refrigerator isn’t keeping your child’s milk cold or the family pack of your favourite ice-cream frozen.

It is important that you identify the problem and fix it soon to avoid further damage. But, before you attempt complex repairs or call for the repair guy, try these simple fixes.

  • Be sure the fridge is plugged in properly and the power supply is on. The light inside the fridge should switch on when you open the door.
  • Check the thermostat to make sure it hasn’t been turned way down.
  • Check whether the vents on the back of the freezer compartment aren’t blocked by boxes of ice cream, chocolates or frozen vegetables. The vents need to be clear for cold air to circulate.
  • Check the condenser fan to make sure nothing is stuck inside and that it spins freely. To do this, unplug the fridge, clean the fan blades with a slightly damp rag and spin the fan by hand to see if it’s stuck. Plug the switch back in and make sure the fan runs when the compressor is running. If the fan doesn’t run, you will have to replace it by calling a specialist.

Top Tip

Find the coils under or behind the fridge and vacuum them to get rid of accumulated dust and dirt.
