Try This to Rid your Refrigerator of Unpleasant Odours

It’s happened to most of us. You open the refrigerator door and are met with an odour that’s impossible to ignore. This could be because of rotten vegetables, cooked food gone bad, expired food products or the fridge itself - if you haven’t cleaned it in a while.

Try these steps to rid your fridge of that odour like a pro.

Step 1: Prep Before you Begin

Switch off the refrigerator and remove all the food. This could be the right time to dispose of rotten, spilt or inedible food items.

Step 2: Remove the Shelves and Drawers

Once the fridge is empty, take out the shelves and drawers and put them near the kitchen sink. This will allow you to wash and clean them conveniently.

Step 3: Make a Cleaning Solution

Pour 2 tsp. of dishwashing liquid in ½ a bucket of water. Use it to scrub the drawers and shelves thoroughly. Rinse with clean water and allow them to air-dry. You can also use this solution to clean the insides of your refrigerator.

Step 4: Treat Stubborn Stains

If you find any stubborn stains that refuse to go, make a powerful cleaning solution. Mix 2 tbsp. each of vinegar and baking soda in 1 cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth in this solution and rub the stains and wash again if needed. Remember to clean the inner corners of the drawers thoroughly.

Step 5: Clean the Gasket

In a bowl, mix 1 cup each of vinegar and water. Dip a clean cloth in this solution and wipe the gasket. Pat the gasket dry with a clean towel. Apply lemon essential oil on the gasket using a soft-bristled brush to keep the rubber supple.

Your fridge is ready to be restocked and you won’t have any unpleasant smells bothering you.

Key Step:

Keep a bowl of coffee beans in your fridge to deodorise it.
