Experts say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but a smelly fridge is enough to instantly make you lose your appetite. No one wants their cheese to smell like eggs, or their eggs to smell like curry.
If you’re tired of opening the fridge and being hit by those lingering smells of dinner you cooked two nights ago, we’ve got some great tips to help you get your fridge clean, hygienic and smelling fresh in a jiffy!
1) Use Dishwashing Liquid and Warm Water
Cleaning your refrigerator is easier than you think. Start by emptying your fridge, get rid of unwanted items, then remove the shelves and drawers. Prepare a cleaning solution by mixing 3-4 drops of dishwashing liquid in a bowl of warm water. Dip a clean sponge in this solution and use it to wipe down the inner part of your fridge thoroughly. This’ll help you get rid of the root cause of the bad odour.
Remember, before using any product, read the directions and then test it on a small area of the fridge first. Always follow the instructions on the label.
2) Use a Powerful Fridge Odour Eliminator
Even after thoroughly cleaning your refrigerator, if you still notice a lingering odour, don’t worry. To get rid of these persistent smells, place a small bowl of baking soda inside your fridge, as this will absorb the odour.
Alternatively, you can also use a commercial product to do the job.
3) Remove Expired Items
Getting rid of unpleasant odours from your refrigerator is one thing, but keeping them at bay is another! It’s simple, try to dedicate a few minutes every week to check through your fridge and remove any food item that has passed its expiry date. Rotten food can give off nasty odours and can contaminate other items too.
4) Store Well
A good habit to get into is wrapping food up tightly before putting them in the fridge or storing them in airtight containers to stop the smells from getting out.
