Step 1: Apply a Rust Stain Remover

Since acid dissolves rust, it makes for an excellent rust stain remover, after which; Surf Excel helps washing the stain away. You don’t have to look far for a good and safe acid either. Lemon juice, for example, works great! The best option is to mix some lemon juice with a small amount of salt, which will form a paste. This combination works great to lift the stain from the clothing and should be left for 30 minutes after being applied to the clothes.

Step 2: Rinse with Vinegar

Vinegar is another excellent acid-based cleaner that works great on rust stains (if possible, use white vinegar for white clothes to avoid creating any other stains). After 30 minutes, rinse the lemon and salt paste off with some undiluted vinegar, which will help dissolve the rust even further. Don’t worry though! Vinegar might have an unpleasant smell, but a good wash will make your clothes smell daisy fresh again.
