Make Your Puja Tablecloth Dussehra-Ready with These Tips

Your puja area is one that will be used a lot during Dussehra and Diwali. Along with the offerings and prayer accessories placed on the table, your puja tablecloth tends to get stained and dirty, making it look untidy the next time you need to use it. What’s more, you want to use a clean puja tablecloth during prayers. Now, you do not have to go out and buy a new one every time you are conducting a puja. We have a few tips for you to get your puja tablecloth clean and ready to reuse.

Removing Oil and Ghee Stains

Oil, liquid or ghee stains are quite common as well, but the trick here is to act fast. Take a paper towel or tissue, and press the stain gently from both sides. This will soak up any excess liquid. Then, take a few drops of liquid detergent and apply it directly on the stain. You can let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse with water. Once the stain has gone, wash the tablecloth in your washer as you normally would. While doing this, always remember to check the care label for temperature instructions.

Removing Candle Wax Residue

While spills on your tablecloth are almost inevitable, the stain does not have to be permanent. One of the most common marks left on a tablecloth used during puja is from candle wax. To clear this, use a blunt knife to scrape the wax from the piece of cloth. For the wax that remains, place a paper towel on the affected area and put a warm iron over the paper towel. Do not use a hot iron. The wax sticks to the paper towel and peels right off.

Flower Stains

Sometimes, even a flower can leave stains on your tablecloth. To remove it, mix 3 tsp. of white vinegar, 3 tsp. of water and 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid in a cup, and mix it well. Evenly apply this cleaning solution on the stained part of your tablecloth, and leave it for 30 minutes. Take an old toothbrush and thoroughly scrub it. Wash as usual.

Sandalwood Paste and Kumkum Stains

To remove common stains caused by sandalwood paste and kumkum, we have quick cleaning solutions. To remove sandalwood paste stains, add 3 tsp. of vinegar, 3 tsp. of water and 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid in a bowl. Similarly, to remove kumkum stains, take a bowl of lukewarm water, and add 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid. Mix it well. Apply on the stained part, and let it rest for 30 minutes. Take a toothbrush and thoroughly scrub. Wash as usual.

It’s that easy! Here’s one thing you don’t need to worry about anymore. Simply follow these tips and reuse your tablecloth for every prayer meeting.
