In all your years of doing laundry, you are bound to encounter a case of chewing gum on your clothing. If you have these tips handy, removing the gum from your clothes will be easy.
1) Deep Freeze
This is perhaps the simplest way to remove chewing gum from your garment. All you have to do is toss your garment in a mesh bag and put the bag in the freezer. Leave it for 2 hours. Then, remove the bag from the freezer and scrape the gum from your garment using a butter knife. The gum should come off smoothly.
2) Use Lemon Juice
Dampen the affected area of the clothing and the chewing gum with lemon juice. You can squeeze the juice of a lemon directly on the garment. Ensure that the juice gets into the space between the fabric and the gum. Then, scrape the gum using a butter knife.
3) Use Hairspray
This method is very effective and simple. Apply hairspray on the chewing gum directly. Then remove it smoothly using the blunt edge of a knife.
4) Use Vinegar and Dishwashing Liquid
Heat a bowl of vinegar in your microwave for 40 seconds. Now, add ½ tsp. of dishwashing liquid in it. You can try using Vim dishwashing liquid for this. Soak the area of your garment where the gum is stuck in vinegar for 2 minutes. Scrape the gum from the garment using a butter knife. Do not use a sharp knife or your fingernails, as this can damage the fabric.
5) Apply Mayonnaise
Squeeze a generous amount of mayonnaise and spread it on the affected area with the chewing gum. Rub the mayonnaise slowly on the gum on your fabric. It shouldn’t be long before the chewing gum peels off.
