Are your home’s exterior walls flaky due to extreme weather conditions? Here are a few ways in which you can fix it!

Peeling of paint is a very common issue, especially in places with high humidity. If you don’t get it fixed soon, it may result in more serious issues, such as mould growth.

Poor protection against moisture and water penetration are the two main perpetrators of flaky walls. Say goodbye to flaky walls with these tips.

1) Identify the problem

Your repair procedure isn’t going to be effective without knowing the root cause of the problem. The exterior walls could get flaky due to various reasons, such as moisture accumulation, painting in adverse weather conditions, adhesion failure caused by poor-quality products or normal wear and tear.

2) Scrap off loose paint

Using a scraper, remove the paint. Take a wire brush and sweep away the remaining dust. Use a fine-grit sandpaper for smoothness.

3) Use a pre-paint cleaner

These special cleaning solutions promote good adhesion between the substrate and the paint. It also kills mould spores thereby preventing future mould growth.

4) Use a good-quality filler

Apply it as per the directions by the manufacturer to repair cracks and holes. Let it dry and use a sandpaper.

Top Tip

Wash the wall and let it dry before applying the filler to prevent recurrence of peeling.
