Have Diwali Festival Celebrations Left Your Garden a Mess? How to Clean That Firecracker Residue

Diwali, the festival of lights, is almost here. The festivities include making colourful rangolis, sharing sweets, offering prayers to goddess Lakshmi, lighting diyas, bursting crackers and so on.

For your kids, the most exciting part of it could be bursting crackers with their friends and siblings, and having a gala time, but they could leave behind a mess. Relax, don't let that worry you. Here’s how you can rid your garden or terrace of that mess.

Wear rubber gloves while clearing away firecracker debris for protection from harmful chemicals.

1) Clear the Dirt and Dust

Use a broomstick to collect all debris, like burnt papers, sparkler sticks and other firecracker remnants, in a dustpan. Empty this in your dustbin. Keep your children and pets away while cleaning it as any contact with it may cause allergies.

2) Wash the Area

If you’re cleaning the mess from your terrace, make a cleaning solution by mixing 2 tsp. of floor cleaner or a dishwashing liquid in a bucket of lukewarm water. Take a rag and thoroughly mop the floor with this solution. Afterwards, take another bucket of plain water and mop again to remove the dirt completely. To clean the garden, simply water the entire area to remove the leftover dust.

3) Use Lemon for Stain-Removal

Often, firecracker powder causes blackish stains on flooring. We have an effective method to rid the flooring of your terrace of those stains. Make a cleaning solution by mixing 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid, 2 tbsp. of lemon juice in a cup of warm water. Pour in a spray bottle and apply on the affected areas. Use a brush and thoroughly scrub the stains. Wash with plain water and allow to air-dry.

4) Use Bleaching Powder for Tough Stains

If the stains persist, evenly cover the affected area by sprinkling bleaching powder, and let it rest for 2-3 hours. Using a floor scrubber, thoroughly scrub the stains. Wash with plain water and allow to air-dry.

Cleaning the firecracker mess and stains from your terrace and garden just got easier!
