Need to spark up new life in your old washing machine? We’ve got you covered with these simple tips and tricks to deal with the issues you may face ahead.
Your washing machine does a lot of hard work, pero kailangan rin niya ang TLC! Luckily, many common washing machine problems can be fixed with what you already have in your home.
Washing machine isn’t draining properly
When your washing machine just isn’t doing the job, the most common reason is that it isn’t draining properly. This leaves dirt from the first wash that could dirty up your laundry. You need to clear your washing machine’s filter. You should be able to find this behind a small panel on the front of the machine.
Put a towel on the floor first for the dirty water trapped in the filter. Then, simply unclip or unscrew the cap under the panel, and remove whatever’s clogging the filter: coins, jewelry and old tissues are common culprits.
It may also be that there is mold and soap scum in the drawer of your washing machine that is causing an unpleasant smell that transfers to your clothes. Give the drawer a good scrub with warm, soapy water, using an old toothbrush for the tricky nooks and crannies.

If there’s dirt trapped anywhere in your machine, it can seep into your clothes and ruin them over time.
Clean out your washing machine drum by pouring white vinegar into the drum and running a hot wash. The vinegar breaks down any caked-on dirt and helps to neutralize mold spores and odors hanging around in the drum.
If there’s mold growing, wipe it off first with a specific mold and mildew cleaner - mold can build up and rub off on your clothes kaya ipunas na ang mga inaamag na yan.
Detergent is not dispensing correctly
There’s a chance your detergent drawer has buildup. To help keep the drawer clear, make sure you aren’t using too much washing powder or fabric softener. Most detergents give recommended measurements at the back of the pack.
How can I keep my washing machine in good condition?
Washing machines need regular cleaning and disinfection to keep them running in good condition. Luckily, you don’t need any special products to clean your washing machine. Unless mold and caked dirt are already present, running a hot wash through an empty machine every couple of weeks should keep it nice and fresh. Clean and scrub the detergent drawer too!
Bonus tip: Check pockets of clothes before washing them
To keep the filter clear and the washing machine working correctly, it really helps to check all the pockets of your clothes before you put them in the machine too. This prevents coins or other items from blocking the filter or getting into the small nooks of your washing machine!
