Sparkling taps, bright, clean porcelain, gleaming tiles: properly cleaned, your bathroom can shine like a palace. This step-by-step guide explains how to clean a bathroom easily.

Bathroom cleaning is easy when you have the right products and some great cleaning tips! Products like DOMESTOS and HANDY ANDY are specially formulated to get the best results, so you don’t have to waste time scrubbing and mixing your cleaning agents.

Prepare for the Bathroom Cleaning

  • Remove all items that you don’t need and store them somewhere else during the cleaning process. This means toothbrush holders, shampoo bottles, towels, soap dishes — anything that sits on a bathroom surface.

  • Collect all your cleaning products. Make sure that you have all the cleaning products and tools that you need to clean the bathroom. We like to use products by DOMESTOS.

  • Ventilate the room and take safety precautions. It’s a good idea to ventilate the bathroom before you begin cleaning, so open the door and window if you have one. If you have rubber gloves, put them on before you start cleaning.

  • Put toilet cleaner into the toilet bowl. Using a specialist toilet cleaning product (like one from DOMESTOS) makes it much easier to clean the toilet. Follow the directions on the label. Let this soak for 30 minutes while you work away on the other steps. This will make it easier when you come to clean the toilet in Step 3.

  • Dust the bathroom from the top down. Use a duster to knock off any dust from the tops of cabinets, shower curtain rods, and work your way down to the lowest shelves.

How To Clean Bathroom Surfaces

Sparkling surfaces are the most visible clue to a clean bathroom – just keep this in mind as you scrub away. You may want to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.

  • Clean walls, windows, and ceilings first. If mildew is growing on any of these surfaces, don’t worry – simply spray the mildew with bleach or disinfectant. Follow the directions on the label (and test the products in a small area first to make sure they are safe for a particular surface). Then scrub the mildew away with a sponge or rag, and rinse the surface with water.

  • Clean the shower or bathtub. Soap scum and limescale can easily build up in the shower, so spray them with a good bathroom cleanser and follow instructions. Scrub the surfaces down, focusing on any problem areas, and rinse with hot water. Limescale remover is very effective on surfaces, and you can also soak the showerhead in vinegar for a few hours to dissolve limescale.

  • Clean the sinks, taps, and counters. Again, simply spray with a bathroom cleanser, let it soak for a few minutes, and scrub away to remove soap scum and toothpaste stains. Rinse with hot water afterwards, and polish the taps with a clean cloth to make them shine.

  • Clean the mirrors. Finally, clear off those toothpaste spatters by spraying a glass cleanser on your mirror and wiping with a clean cloth. For extra shine, rub the mirror with a cloth or bunched-up newspaper.

Clean the Toilet

The toilet is both the least pleasant and the most important part of your bathroom to clean, if you want to keep the space hygienic for your family.

  • Clean the exterior of the toilet. Spray all toilet surfaces with a DOMESTOS product and wipe them clean. Clean the toilet handle first to keep it germ-free. Make sure to clean the underside of the toilet seat and the hinges. Use a cloth that is specifically designated to clean the toilet area and nowhere else.

  • Scrub out the toilet bowl. This should be much easier if you’ve added bleach already in Step 1. Now use the toilet brush to scrub all parts of the bowl, especially the underside of the toilet bowl rim. Flush once or twice — and your toilet bowl should now be sparkling.

Final Steps to Bathroom Cleaning

  • Sweep and mop the bathroom floor. This is the only remaining part of your bathroom to clean. Start with the farthest point from the door, and sweep towards the door, so it’s easy to remove any dust or hair. Make sure to clean around the base of the toilet. Mop with your preferred cleaning product (follow the directions on the label when mixing it with water), and then let dry.

  • Let your bathroom air out. Open any windows or turn on the bathroom fan to draw out any moisture and let the room ventilate.

With these straightforward bathroom cleaning tips, you’ll no longer have to ask, “How to clean my bathroom?” Follow these steps every week or two, and you won’t hesitate to show off your sparkling bathroom to your guests.
