We’ll give you the low down on uses for dishwasher tablets, either than to clean your dishes in your dishwasher. You'll be able to clean every surface in your house from top to bottom without any harsh chemicals or expensive equipment. All you need is a dishwasher tablet and some water!

Top Five Uses Of Dishwasher Tablets Around The Home

In addition to cleaning dishes, dishwasher detergent tablets have a range of other interesting uses around the home to try. Of course, it is ideal to use your dishwasher tablets in the dishwasher mainly, but for those times when you run out of other cleaning products, these hacks can help you keep your home as sparkling as new.

#1 – Bathroom Cleaning

Dishwasher tablets are an excellent alternative to use for cleaning toilets, baths and showers in the bathroom. Here’s how:

  • Drop a dishwasher tablet in your toilet bowl and allow it to dissolve in the water. With a toilet brush, scrub the sides and bowl of the toilet using the dissolved tablets and the water for great results. You can even drop a tablet in the cistern to get fresh, clean-smelling water every time you flush.

  • Add a little water to the floor of your shower or bath and drop a tablet into the water, allowing it to dissolve. Using a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush (for stained floors) rub and scrub the floor of the shower or bath to get a sparkling clean.

#2 – Washing Machine Cleaning

The washing machine itself is a place that doesn’t often get cleaned, because it’s cleaning our clothes all day long, right? However, washing machines can be areas where a lot of mould and dirt collects, and they should be cleaned at least once a month. Simply drop two dishwasher tablets into the drum of your machine – be it a front or top loader – and run the machine on a hot wash cycle with no clothing in it.

#3 – Oven Cleaning

Ovens can get caked with dried and oily food from cooking that can be difficult to get off. Using a dishwasher tablet can make the oven cleaning process a cinch in a few easy steps:

  • Make sure the oven is switched off completely

  • Fill the bottom of the oven with a layer of warm water.

  • Drop a dishwasher tablet into the water and allow to dissolve

  • Using a soft cloth, wash the entire oven, including the floor and walls.

  • Soak the oven racks in a sink full of water with a dishwasher tablet dissolved into it.

#4 – Floor Cleaning

Have you run out of your favourite floor cleaner and need to get your floor cleaned asap? Fill a bucket with warm water and drop two dishwashing tablets into the water and let them dissolve fully. Using a clean mop, wash the floor with this solution for an effective, sparkling clean floor.

#5 – Patio & Furniture Cleaning

Outdoor furniture and patios can take the biggest brunt of our dry, dusty South African weather at times. Our outdoor areas and furniture are exposed to the elements of dust, wind, rain and dirt all day long. That can make cleaning them quite tricky. Again, one little dishwasher tablet is all you need to clean dried on dust and dirt on all your outdoor items. Simply dissolve one tablet in 2L – 5L of warm water and wipe your furniture and floors down well.
