  3. Remove Soap Scum from Shower Tiles and Surfaces

The first step in cleaning the shower is to rinse the tiles, floor, and walls of the shower with hot water for a couple of minutes. Not only will this address the superficial mess, but the heat will expand the pores of all the surface materials and make it easier to clean.

Cleaning the showerhead is an often overlooked step in bathroom maintenance routines, but if you’ve ever paused for a minute to look at the limescale caking the small holes on your showerhead, you’ll realise it’s an important task! It isn’t difficult to learn how to clean a showerhead: simply soak it in a tub filled with vinegar solution or detergent for a couple of hours, then scrub the gunk away! If the shower head is fixed to the wall, you can fill a resealable plastic bag with vinegar and use rubber bands to affix it to the shower head, letting it soak for a while before removing and rinsing.

Next, you’ll want to get rid of all the soap scum and any other residue in your shower. Just spray on one of the many shower cleaners available at your local store, leave for 20 minutes to an hour, and then rinse it all off. Always make sure to read the label of any cleaning products before use. Keep the bathroom well ventilated and always wear rubber gloves and protective clothing.

1. How to Clean Grout in the Shower

Attack the mould in the grouting with an appropriate shower cleaner and an old toothbrush. After applying your chosen shower cleaner, leave enough time for it to break down the dirt, and then give it some elbow grease!

2. De-clog the Drain

Be prepared for nasty surprises when de-clogging the drain! Use rubber gloves to pick out tangled hair and put it straight into the rubbish bin. To clean between the grates of the drain, try using an old crochet hook to fish out hair and other greasy build-ups. Follow up with some drain cleaner to dissolve any remaining deposits. Remember to follow the directions on the label of any drain cleaner, as the product will be quite strong. Leave for 30 minutes, and then rinse out with water.

  • Grab a pair of rubber gloves.

  • When removing soap scum, leave your shower cleaning product to work its magic for 20 minutes to an hour.
