General tips for cleaning floors
If you’re doing the cleaning of your home yourself, here are our top products that should be in your DIY Floor Cleaning Kit. Keep these products together in a bucket, and reserve it solely for floor cleaning. That way, you’ll always have everything you need on hand.
DIY Floor Cleaning Kit – what to have:
5L bucket – ideally with two parts (one side for dirty water, one side for clean, soapy water)
A good quality, multipurpose floor cleaner like Handy Andy All-in-One Floor Cleaner
A microfibre mop – again, this type of mop works well for most smooth floor surfaces
A broom
A variety of microfibre cloths
A small scrubbing brush
Armed with this kit, you’ll be able to tackle anything from a simple floor cleaning job to tackling a really dirty floor surface with ease.
How to clean different types of flooring
The reason we love the Handy Andy All-in-One Floor Cleaner range, is because it is an efficient floor cleaner that can be used on a wide variety of floor types like wood, tile and laminate. There is no need to have a separate product for every kind of flooring type when you use Handy Andy.
Handy Andy All-in-One is also available with the power of Domestos, meaning it can kill 99.9% of germs it comes into contact with. It is the ideal option for bathrooms, kitchens and other high-traffic, high-germ areas.
Tiled Floors
Here’s how to clean tiled flooring with your DIY Floor Cleaning Kit at the ready:
Sweep the floor thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris
Add approximately 2 – 3 caps of Handy Andy All-in-One to your 5L bucket and fill it with warm water.
Use your mop to clean the floor with the soapy, germ-killing water solution. Allow to dry.
For extra shine, wipe down once dry with a clean, microfibre cloth.
For mould, mildew, or tough stained spots, pour a capful of Handy Andy directly onto the stain and allow to soak for 5 minutes before wiping off.
Wood Floors
Wood flooring will take on the exact same process as you would follow for tiled flooring. Just be careful about using anything abrasive on wood flooring – like a scrubbing brush or scourer – as this could lead to scratching and damage to your flooring. Also, avoid using too much water on wood flooring, a damp mop that has been wrung out will suffice.
Laminate Floors
Laminate flooring is a great flooring to choose to have in the home especially if you have busy little feet running around and pets too. Just make sure not to soak your laminate flooring with too much water as it can warp the laminate boards.

How to know if you need a cleaning service?
If you are not able to keep up with the cleaning of your home due to work and family commitments, it might be worth your while to look into enlisting the help of an essential cleaning services company. In this day and age though, you can’t be too careful, so here are a few questions to ask before inviting a company into your home.
Ask friends and family for recommendations on cleaning companies that have worked for them in the past – word of mouth is best.
How long has the company been in business?
How many people do they employ?
What kind of checks do their employees undergo i.e., criminal checks, sex offender checks, credit checks etc?
Ask them for a few references that you can contact personally to get a feel for the company.
Ask them what products they use. And if they’d be willing to use the products you want when cleaning your home?
