Key Steps:

  1. It can be easy to forget about cleaning bathroom accessories, but it’s important that they’re not neglected if you want to keep your bathroom free from germs. – You wouldn’t neglect cleaning the toilet, so why forget about the toilet brush?
  2. Everyday household cleaning solutions can be used, or specialised bathroom cleaning products are just as effective.

With a bit of preparation and the right bathroom cleaning products, cleaning all parts of the bathroom can be quick and easy!

When you’re thinking about how to clean a bathroom, aside from scrubbing the toilet, sink, and bath or shower, what else comes to mind? What about those much overlooked bathroom accessories: the soap dish, toothbrush holder, and the toilet brush? These objects are also magnets for bacteria and should be regularly cleaned. Below are a few great bathroom cleaning tips that demonstrate how everyday household items can easily be used as bathroom cleaners to tackle those overlooked accessories. Remember, always be sure to wear protective clothing when using cleaning products and keep the bathroom area well ventilated.

How to Clean a Toilet Brush and Holder

To give your toilet brush and holder a proper weekly deep-clean, use the following steps:

  • Rinse your brush and holder under a hot tap.
  • Then, soak the brush and holder in a bucket of boiling water containing bleach or vinegar (approximately 2 cups for every half a gallon of hot water) for an hour.
  • Use dishwashing detergent to scrub the brush and holder with a sponge – an old dishwashing brush or toothbrush is effective at cleaning between the bristles – and get rid of any lingering dirt.
  • Lay the brush and holder on an old (but clean) towel to dry – in the sun, if possible.

How to Clean a Soap Dish

A build-up of soap scum in your soap dish is, thankfully, relatively easy to avoid:

  • Buy a soap dish that has a run off spout to allow the moisture and liquid that builds up under your soap to run off into the sink.
  • Remove soap scum with a paste made from one tablespoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.
  • Apply the paste to your soap dish and then scrub with a brush and rinse.
  • This routine should be repeated once a week.

A spritz with Cif Power & Shine Bathroom Spray will also work equally as well to remove soap scum.

How to Clean a Shower Curtain

The shower curtain is another bathroom accessory that can be cleaned with everyday household items.

  • If your shower curtain can be washed in the washing machine, then to get rid of the mould and mildew that can easily build up on your shower curtain, place it in the washing machine with a couple of towels, on a gentle setting.
  • Add half a cup of baking soda during the wash cycle and half a cup of vinegar during the rinse cycle.
  • Then air dry the shower curtain – tumble drying may damage it.
  • Do this regularly to ensure that your shower curtain stays looking beautiful and mould-free.
